This year Summer Solstice lands at 8:30 pm on Sunday June 20 – today! As a Witch I celebrate the sabbat Litha. The Boston Public Library has a pretty good overview of the holiday and how it’s honored today.
My coven rented a campsite at a local state park to celebrate among the trees. We meditated on the balance of light and darkness, the pivot of the year when the day of greatest light holds the seed of shadow. Night and darkness are not evil; night brings us the rest necessary for our bodies and our spirits, darkness is the ground of being from which everything emerges. We dance in the beautiful brightly lit sun and revel in the warmth and ease of summer, turning the wheel of the year, marking the point where the light begins to tip down again toward winter.
