The brave crab

The sign Cancer is named for the crab. As the story goes, Hercules was the son of Zeus and the mortal woman Alkmene. Classical mythology portrays Hera as a jealous wife who persecutes the livers and children of Zeus. Hera sent Hercules to do 12 impossible labors hoping to kill him. The second labor was to kill the many headed hydra. In the course of the battle Hera sent the crab Karkinos to distract Hercules. When the crab bit his toe Hercules spared one swing of his club to crush and kill him. Hera rewarded the faithful crab by placing him among the stars.

I am thinking about how brave it is to go up against a larger and powerful opponent. In these times we see many moments of bravery opposing the cruelty of the powerful. May they all be remembered and may they be rewarded.
